At the Captain Swift Inn, gracious common spaces invite guests to slow down and savor the experience of staying in a historic coastal home. Each sitting room offers its own distinctive charm—from sunlit spaces with original fireplaces to cozy corners perfect for a cup of coffee or a quiet conversation. Thoughtfully appointed with comfortable furnishings and timeless character, these inviting rooms provide beautiful places to unwind, connect and enjoy the relaxed elegance of our coastal Maine inn.

The Locke Sitting Room, named after the daughter of the original property owners, was once the home’s dining room. Today this bright room in the front of the inn is filled with comfortable upholstered furniture and a game table. It also has one of the home’s original five fireplaces. Grab a game or browse our book selection from the Games & Books closet tucked in the corner of the room.

The Hunt Sitting Room, named after the original property owners, was the home’s original living space. This lovely sitting room, also bright and handsomely appointed in the front of the inn with an original fireplace, provides another space for guests to relax after a busy day of exploration. This room also features a beverage nook tucked in the corner, providing self-serve access to coffee and tea 24/7.

The Keeping Room, originally the home’s kitchen with an antique Dutch cooking oven alongside the fireplace, is yet another cozy space for guests to sit and relax. This space also serves as the central hub within the inn where guests can help themselves to freshly brewed, locally roasted coffee in the mornings and inn-made treats in the afternoons. Guests also have access to complimentary beverages, an ice machine, wine glasses and ice buckets here.

The Dining Room, which was the home’s patio many years ago, is now an intimate space where guests can enjoy a delicious, scratch-made breakfast prepared daily using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The inn’s large outdoor dining deck, directly off the dining room, is a wonderful place to enjoy alfresco dining, weather permitting.

Enjoy the outdoors and spend time reading or sipping your favorite beverage on our stone patio. Relax in one of the colorful Adirondack chairs or indulge in conversation with other guests. In the winter, cozy up with a warm beverage and roast s’mores at the fire pit.
